GoingGreen Welcome to the first annual AlwaysOn GoingGreen 100. With this list of the hottest private companies in greentech, we highlight the game-changing players that are making it possible and profitable for big businesses to go green.  These innovators are transforming the global energy, water, agriculture, transportation, construction, manufacturing, and resource recovery establishments – all trillion-dollar industries.

Greentech has become the 3rd largest investment class for venture capitalists —$6.4 billion total has been invested.  As the money pours into this sector, our GoingGreen editorial team - headed up by EcoWorld’s Ed Ring - has been hard at work vetting these companies, searching for ones based on real science and solid business plans.

Hundreds of private companies were nominated by dozens of top venture capital firms and a wide breadth of green technology insiders. To make the final selection, companies needed to demonstrate that they excelled in our five primary evaluation criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value creation, and media attention or “buzz.”

The GoingGreen 100 winners will be honored at GoingGreen, an executive summit presented by AlwaysOn and the University of California, Davis, Graduate School of Management on September 10-12 at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on the UC Davis campus. Check out the full program and live Webcast for GoingGreen here.

Full coverage of the GoingGreen 100 companies will also appear in the Fall issue of AO’s print magazine. Click here to learn how to get a copy of this issue.

Congratulations to all the GoingGreen 100 winners! AlwaysOn and our partners look forward to honoring you at GoingGreen on September 10th!

A live webcast seems to be a part of GoingGreen 2007, but I can't figure out how to access it. Can anyone help me?

Thank you in advance.

The GoingGreen webcast has opened my eyes to an area that I didn't think about before, but having had an early peak at it, I can see the tremendous scope and future prospects of this sector, especially in the near-term and especially the eye-opening relationship between Greentech and China, where it did not occur to me how much the Chinese are focused on the sustainable development question - and that as a competitive advantage rather than purely ecological considerations. The most surprising discovery for me is how some of the philosophical basis of greentech - that very thinking of complete systems view is something that resonates with my intelligence.

Moreover I burst some preconceived assumptions about green technology that clearly belong to a bye-gone era, for what I see coming onto the market is technology that either has come of age or is in the throes of breaking new ground in terms of future viability. That is not to say that consequences have been prefigured and the future of greentech will run smoothly, but I have a far greater confidence and feel for this industry then I did when I woke up this morning - and that means I learned something.

Jeff, the Webcast is here: http://alwayson.goingon.com/page/display/18244

Syven, I'm with you. McDonough's wholistic view on creativity, intelligent design and love for children as part and parcel of environmentalism opened my mind a bit.

Matt, you have said nothing that is disagreeable, but what I heard from McDonough is far more than altruistic or wise intent, in a world where information is abundant, where there are so many more people questioning the very nature of truth, where kids are no longer simply plugin's to the media circuit the way we were as kids - in a world where the economy is moving towards the brain rather than the body - but more importantly in a world where collaboration is becoming a relevant competitive advantage - that simple idea of leaving a legacy is much more than the quality of our hearts, it is increasingly today, it is the transforming measure of man.

That is what separates the 20th Century which was machismo of the body from the 21st Century which is a time where life is trying to connect with the intelligent organs in our body. It isn't just the media affected McLuhanistic neural system, it is the birth of developing smart hearts and that means creating life where in the past what we have achieved is merely creating death, the very death that Van Gogh painted of workers stripped of any life. When we are looking after our kids, we are giving them the right to think and live. When we are giving them the right to think and live, we are strengthening a nation rather than using up the resources of a nation as a mechanistic plunder.

Love the website.
I am in Pennsylvania, far from all you enlightened thinkers in California, but near to half of the country's population, (150M consumers in a days drive from here in Philadelphia).

To this point, could someone clue me in on
1. what companies sell a retro fitting to convert automobiles from petroleum gas to liquid gas
AND
2. where these companies are located
3. who is certified mechanic who does this conversion process
4. where these mechanics are located.
5. What municipal fleets in the US now use natural gas to propel their cars, trucks and buses?

Thanks,

Robert McManus

I would like to start a recycling plant in my area that would intercept trash going into the landfill. Can you lead me in the right direction to get started? Thanks
